Ive been working on my portfolio a lot lately and i feel like it is helpful to go over my things one last time before i turn them in. I like the idea of putting all the semesters work into one final folder. Its frustrating at times to get the stuff just right but i like reading what i wrote at the beginning of the semester. I thinks it is a good way to see how you have evolved as writer. I think have become more versatile because of the two genre's i had never written in before. Also i have learned that the genre you pick might not always be the best one to get your point across. I enjoyed the presentation a lot because it appeals to to more than the writing. The first and the third assignments taught me various things. Due to the research proposal I know how important it is to have a clear topic throughout the entire project. The initiating action project taught me how to write in editorial form. I had never done this and I like writing in this form because its short and gets a point a across to the reader.

I am changing my genre to a newspaper editorial. My teacher said it would it would fit what i am trying to convey and i agreed with her. Newspaper Editorials are written pieces that express the opinion of the editor. It conveys to the reader the personal views of the person writing the article. I think this is better genre because some of the ideas are mine and some ideas are others that i agree strongly with. And since editorials are written to express opinions the genre fits the purpose.
Also many editorials are written on controversial issues and the voting process is a hot topic of debate among people. And it gained even more air time because of one of the biggest elections in the history of the United States.

The above link is an editorial about a controversial topic of the the Colombian Trade Pact. It was written for the New York Times and has all the qualities that make it an Editorial such as controversy and the opinion of the Writer. Its short and to the point.
Also i think good editorials are concise and the get the point across the reader in as few words as possible. At least that's what i have been seeing in the editorials i have been reading.

i hope my portfolio turns out well.... i think it will. I've mostly written about elections and political parties because i was interested in the election and now that's it over i think its fitting that out portfolios are due pretty soon. kinda ironic but i guess that's just how it works out cuz i really don't know what i would write about if we had to do another assignment.

the real genre
My genre for the project will be essay form and hopefully a PowerPoint or a poster board to go along and supplement that. The conventions of essays are persuasive writing, informative writing, and a laundry list of other things to convey a point. Also conventions can be how essays are usually written. The writer needs to get the target audience to sway one way or the other. The writers of the genre include everyone who wants to have a in changing the political process. It can be everyday average students people up the high levels of congress. The purpose of the genre can be many things: essays have a wide range of topics. inform people about things, persuay people about an issue, tell people a story. There is no limit on what you can and cant write. There is a lot f freedom involved with essays but most students usually go for the typical 5 paragraph essay that they were conventionally taught in school. also another lack of freedom is which format you have to follow MLA etc. this depends on what you are writing about.

My Genre
The genre of my project is the political community within the United States. Anything that has so do with running the country as a whole and preferably making it better. The conventions of my genre are pretty normal. Its a good amount of persuasive writing that has to get people to sway one way or the other on an issue. The people who write in my genre are anyone who has a problem with the they way the Political community does things. The writings have to prove a point and push their target audience one way or the other. This includes just everyday average citizens up to the higher levels congress. Anyone who wants to see change in the system to make it better. The main purpose is to propose change within the political community. Change that makes laws better. A better way to elect officials, anythings that can change America that will make the country better. There is a lot of freedom when writing about the political genre. Since it is the United States you can speak freely about almost anything you want to without having to suffer unjust consequences.

Voting!!!!! what can be changed?
The audience of my essay/project will be anyone who has a say on they way people vote in America. The congress and the president mainly and the people who affiliate with both of them. Anyone that can make a change for the better in the way the Unites States votes. The purpose is to make voting easier on the people voting and the way the votes are counted. There have been many issues that have arised that need to be taken care of. The issues that have clearly impacted the country aredebacle in Florida in the 2000 election and the lack of voter turn out for all elections. I think these issues can be taken care of with planning and reforms to the system. Many people have been talking about ideas to make the voter turnout better. Switching election day to a weekend would make it easier on a great number of people in america. There is talk of implementing these new ideas but nothing has been done so far. Hopefully things can change to make it more effective and easier for Americans to vote.

Voting
For our final project i want to see what people think about the whole voting process. From the time they register up until they cast thier ballot. Is it easy or hard? What changes can be made to make it easier for young people to vote? the set up of polling sites, the actual method of polling.
I will collect my information through more research and interviews to see what people think about the methods of voting and the manner in which they vote. the way i will present the information is through some sort of writing maybe an essay and a visual component most likely a power point presentation of some sort. Hopefully these will be helpful in fully understanding the whole process of voting and see what can be done to make it easier and more effective.
