The two communities I have the most interest in are the soccer and political communities I am leaning toward the political community because it is an election year and so much is going on in the next few months. I'm not sure if I want to just look at the general election or the two specific parties.

If you're interested in a political community, why don't you try to find an actual local group of politically interested people who meet on a regular basis? This way you would have an actual group to visit and people in it to interview, etc.
By Friday, try to bring to class the names of one or two political groups in the area. Try to find out something about them, too.
